Inspired by a family member’s heroin overdose and near-death experience, NEW YORK ONIONS is a minimalistic, symbolic portrait of decay. Jessica buys onions every single day with money from under her mattress, then she paints, before finally passing out. Originally, NEW YORK ONIONS was published on Wattpad and became "featured" by the website itself, amassing tens of thousands of readers and dozens of glowing reviews, before finally finding a home in its publication with Atlantis: A Creative Magazine, both in physical and digital formats for free. It is notable for being the shortest story by William Becker, his first short story published as a standalone work, and his first audiobook.
